France Football considering handing Robert Lewandowski the 2020 Ballon d'Or award

The 2020 Ballon d’Or was cancelled due to Covid-19
For Robert Lewandowski, who squandered the Ballon d’Or 2021 to Lionel Messi, there might be some consolation four years later. Ivan San Antonio, a journalist for Diario Sport, has revealed that France Football is thinking about awarding Lewandowski the 2020 Ballon d’Or this year, albeit that decision has not yet been made.
In 2019–20, Bayern Munich won the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal, and Champions League triple, and with an incredible 55 goals, Lewandowski established himself as the best striker in the world.
Sadly, the Poland international lost out on what would have undoubtedly been his first Ballon d’Or because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Following the decision by French officials to write off the Ligue 1 season, the 2020 ceremony was cancelled. The head editor of France Football, Pascal Ferre, stated,
“The equality that is required for this honorary title will not be met, especially when it comes to assessing performance and preparation: all the award contenders will not be in the same boat.”

Although the justification wasn’t very convincing, Lewandowski was unfazed by the rejection and returned to score 62 goals for Bayern in every competition in 2021.
He had been rejected the Golden Ball the year before, so receiving it felt like a formality. In the end, he did receive an incredible 580 voting points. Regretfully, that was nevertheless 33 below Messi, who addressed his opponent in his victorious speech:
“Everyone knows and we agree that you were the winner last year. I think France Football should award you your 2020 Ballon d’Or – you deserve it and you should have it at home.”
Lewandowski ultimately had to settle with the inaugural ‘Gerd Muller Striker of the Year award, which still seems like a kick in the face.
