France will look to continue their perfect start to the FIFA World Cup 2026 when they face Iraq in their second Group I fixture.
France made an impressive start to their FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign with a commanding 3-1 victory over Senegal. Didier Deschamps’ side showcased the depth of talent at their disposal, controlling large phases of the contest. They are creating numerous opportunities in the final third.
The result placed Les Bleus at the top end of Group I. It strengthened their chances of securing an early place in the knockout stages.
Iraq, meanwhile, suffered a difficult opening match against Norway. They fell to a 4-1 defeat despite showing moments of promise going forward.
The Asian side now face one of the toughest challenges in international football. They prepare to take on a French squad packed with world-class quality across every area of the pitch.
Who all will be expected to be in the starting lineup?

Mike Maignan remains one of the most reliable goalkeepers in world football. He provides a calm presence between the posts. His distribution, command of the penalty area, and shot-stopping ability make him a key figure in France’s build-up play as well as their defensive structure.
Jules Koundé occupies the right-back position. He offers a blend of defensive security and attacking support. On the opposite flank, Theo Hernández provides pace, width and a constant threat whenever France progress into advanced areas.
The central defensive partnership consists of Dayot Upamecano and William Saliba. Upamecano’s physicality and aggression complement Saliba’s composure and positional awareness, forming one of the strongest centre-back pairings at the tournament. Their ability to play out from the back also allow France to maintain control of possession under pressure.
Aurélien Tchouaméni anchors the midfield. He serves as the foundation of France’s structure. His ball-winning ability, tactical intelligence and distribution help maintain balance between defence and attack.
Alongside him, Adrien Rabiot adds energy, progressive carrying and an ability to influence both penalty areas. The midfielder’s experience and versatility allow France to adapt to different phases of the game. That too without losing control in central areas.
Michael Olise operates on the right side of the attack. He brings creativity, technical quality and precise delivery in the final third. His ability to unlock compact defensive units gives France another dimension going forward.
Ousmane Dembélé occupies a central attacking role. His movement, acceleration and unpredictability can create problems for opposition defences. Whether through dribbling or incisive passing, he remains one of France’s most dangerous attacking weapons.
Désiré Doué provides flair and dynamism from the left flank. The youngster’s confidence in possession and willingness to take on defenders make him an exciting presence in one-versus-one situations.
Leading the line is captain Kylian Mbappé. The forward remains the focal point of France’s attack. He enters the contest as one of the favourites to finish among the tournament’s leading goalscorers.
His pace, movement and clinical finishing ensure he remains a constant threat throughout the match.
