Les Bleus are off to the last 16.
The two-time world champions, France, are at the 2026 FIFA World Cup to win their third prestigious title. They battled the Sweden national football team in their round of 32 fixture at MetLife Stadium.
The Didier Deschamps-led side came up with another top-of-the-line effort and have now secured a spot in the round of 16. They completely outplayed Graham Potter’s men. From controlling the tempo of the game to maintaining their goal-scoring run, the France national football team looked quite locked in.
The FIFA World Cup 2026 run has come to an end for the Sweden national football team. Their performance was not quite adequate against the French. They lacked control of the ball and were unable to put pressure on the two-time world champions.
Five important things we learned from this match:
1. France’s star-studded attack continues to prevail
Les Bleus came up with 24 attempts on the goal. 13 of them were on target and that built up continuous pressure on their opponents from the start of the encounter. Stars like Kylian Mbappe, Michael Olise, Ousmane Dembele and Bradley Barcola barely gave the Swedish defence a chance to breathe.
2. Kylian Mbappe led by example once again

The 27-year-old continues his excellent goal-scoring run. He scored a sensational brace. His opening goal was assisted by Ousmane Dembele and the second was by Michael Olise. With that, Kylian Mbappe now has six goals and has caught up to Lionel Messi in the Golden Boot race. He looked frustrated in the first-half, but Mbappe eventually found the back of the net at the end of 45 minutes.

3. Justified start for Bradley Barcola
The in-form Desire Doué was benched and Bradley Barcola was on the left flank today. He took full advantage of his start and scored his second goal of the FIFA World Cup 2026. Michael Olise once again came up with a sensational through ball and Barcola, without making a mistake, fired the ball at the back of the net in the 53rd minute.
4. Sweden’s run comes to an end

The Sweden national football team bravely secured a spot in the knockout stage of the FIFA World Cup 2026. Their run has now come to an end. The underdogs failed to stand a chance against the in-form France. The Graham Potter-led side never took control of the game. There were few chances, but they failed to capitalise on them. On the other hand, they stumbled under pressure and conceded three goals.
5. Into the round of 16 with full confidence
France have justified why they are one of the favourites to win the FIFA World Cup 2026. They have won all four of their matches in the mega competition as of now. Their squad depth remains their true strength. The star-studded attack continues to derail the opponents and a confident squad is set to take on Paraguay in the round of 16.
