Frank Lampard last managed club came with Chelsea as interim coach

According to reports, Frank Lampard is one of the front-runners to become the next head coach of the Canadian national team.

The Canadian football federation is looking for a manager to lead the team into a home World Cup in 2026, and reported to The Telegraph, the former manager of Chelsea and Everton is on their shortlist of managers. The United States and Canada will co-host the competition with Canada. However, since Englishman John Herdman resigned from the team last summer, they haven’t had a permanent coach.Mauro Biello took over in the interim following Lampard’s transfer to Toronto FC, but it is said that Canada soccer officials are now eager to talk with Lampard.

After serving as Chelsea’s temporary manager for a short while at the end of the previous season, the former England player is rumoured to desire to return to management. After finishing his playing career in 2015, the 45-year-old moved to New York City FC from Manchester City and lived in North America for a year.

He has worked at Derby, Chelsea (twice), and Everton, but he has never been a coach outside of the United Kingdom. In anticipation of England’s friendlies against Brazil and Belgium last month, Lampard was spotted observing training. With Chelsea, Lampard, 45, enjoyed a lengthy professional career spanning 429 Premier League appearances in England.

His background in management is not as broad. In 2018, he took a job with Championship team Derby County. Shortly after, he returned to Chelsea as manager in 2019. Not everything went according to plan, since Lampard only lasted for eighteen months.

He was hired a year later in January 2021 to assist Everton, who was having trouble, and he helped the team avoid relegation. However, he was fired a year later. His last position was as Chelsea’s caretaker for just 11 games in the spring of last year.

Canada’s men’s programme has been managed by temporary head Mauro Biello since John Herdman left to take charge at Toronto FC a year ago.

The men’s squad recently earned a spot in the Copa América this summer, where they will play Argentina, Chile, and Peru in June. The CMNT will play a friendly match against the Netherlands prior to a component and there are rumours that they may also play a warm-up match against France.Along with the United States and Mexico, Canada is going to host the 2026 men’s World Cup, which will take stadium at BC Place in Vancouver and BMO Stadium in Toronto.
