Top five free agents Barcelona could sign next summer
The Catalan club struggled to even register Dani Olmo this season.
By next summer many players will become free agents if they fail to extend their contract with their respective clubs. This will give other teams a chance to sign them on free. Barcelona who are struggling financially can acquire some of them if they want to reinforce their squad for the next season.
The Catalan club are already linked with a few of them. If a chance arises then we might see Barcelona capitalize on it. This summer they only managed to make one signing of Dani Olmo due to their economic struggles.
But given many players will become free agents next summer, we take a look at whom Barcelona could sign without spending even a penny.
5. Jonathan Tah
According to reports, Barcelona are in the lead to sign Jonathan Tah, a defender for Bayer Leverkusen, in 2025. Barcelona’s sporting department is keeping an eye on the German centre-back as they try to bolster their defence. When his contract expires next summer, it looks like the Blaugrana are prepared to enter the bidding for his signing.
4. Leroy Sane
According to reports, Barcelona are among the most recent teams to express interest in the possible acquisition of Leroy Sane, a winger for Bayern Munich. Sane is also being considered by Liverpool and Newcastle United.
The German international’s current deal with Bayern is coming to an end, and Barca are currently monitoring his status. However, they are worried about their ability to cover his wages which could prove to be a big obstacle for them.
3. Virgil van Dijk
Despite rumours of renewing his deal with Liverpool it will be interesting to see what happens after the end of the season. Virgil van Dijk could become a free agent and many clubs would end up lining up for him given the centre-back’s leadership qualities.
Barcelona can also test the waters. They can land one of the best defenders, who has previously said that he loves playing at Camp Nou. Given the club’s stadium will be renovated by next year they can certainly make the Dutch centre-back’s dream come true.
2. Jonathan David
Barcelona are keeping a careful eye on the summer 2025 free-agent striker market. According to the reports, Jonathan David is the most promising candidate and stands out among others for Barcelona.
David is one of the most coveted forwards scheduled to become a free agent on June 30, who netted the game-winning penalty against Real Madrid earlier this week. His market worth is €50 million. If he doesn’t renew his deal with Lille then Barcelona should go for him.
1. Joshua Kimmich
Joshua Kimmich has long been linked with a move to Barcelona but nothing has transpired so far. The club have not made any concrete move for the midfielder. However, knowing that he will be a free agent next summer Barcelona could take their chances. Former Bayern coach Hansi Flick can also play a crucial role in bringing the versatile player to Spain.
