PSG are the most recent winners of the cup.

The winners of the Coupe de France and the Ligue 1 champions square off each year for the Trophée des Champions (French Super Cup), a French association football trophy. It is comparable to the Super Cups that are held in numerous other nations.

The game as we know it today was contested for the first time in 1995, but the current format in French football dates back to 1949, when Stade de Reims, the first division champions, beat RCF Paris, the victors of the 1948–49 Coupe de France, 4–3 at the Stade Olympique Yves-du-Manoir in Colombes. The Union Syndicale des Journalistes Sportifs de France (UJSF) and the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) are co-organizers of the game.

The Trophée des Champions (French Super Cup) game has taken place at a number of locations and is played at the start or midpoint of the subsequent season. Cities including Marseille, Montpellier, Paris, Toulouse, and Saint-Étienne hosted matches during the Challenge des Champions era.

The Stade Gerland in Lyon hosted the game three times between 1995 and 2008. Additional locations include the Stade de la Meinau in Strasbourg, the Stade de l’Abbé Deschamps in Auxerre, and the Stade Pierre de Coubertin twice in Cannes.

The FFF (French Football Federation) declared on May 12, 2009, that the 2009 Trophée des Champions would take place in the Olympic Stadium in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, rather than France for the first time. Since then, the French Super Cup has taken place in China, Austria, Gabon, the United States, Morocco, Tunisia, and most recently, Qatar.
