Gareth Bale confirms interest in buying his hometown Welsh club Cardiff City

The former Wales International had earlier attempted to buy Plymouth Argyle.
Gareth Bale has acknowledged that he is a member of a consortium attempting to purchase Cardiff City, his hometown team.
Recently, Bale was a member of a U.S. syndicate that attempted to buy Plymouth Argyle but apparently failed. Wales’ all-time top scorer on Monday reiterated his desire to become a football club owner, this time with Cardiff City of the EFL League One.
Bale told Sky Sports while he was on the red carpet at the “F1: The Movie” premiere:
“We are interested in getting Cardiff. It’s my home club, it’s where I grew up and my uncle used to play for them. To be involved with an ownership group would be a dream come true.”
Despite being born in Cardiff, Gareth Bale never played for the team. Instead, he began his career at Southampton’s youth academy before having his initial stints at LAFC, Real Madrid, and Tottenham Hotspur.
Gareth Bale dreams of taking Cardiff to the Premier League after the purchase
Bale:
“It [Cardiff] is a club close to my heart. It’s where I grew up, and I would love to be able to be a part of growing Cardiff and taking it to the Premier League where it belongs.”
“I know how amazing the Welsh fans and Cardiff fans are. It would be amazing to try and do something together.”
“We are trying to engage with Cardiff and more news will come out on that in the future but hopefully we can get something done.”
He was most recently associated with a company that was unsuccessful in their purported attempt to acquire Plymouth, who, like Cardiff, were demoted from the EFL Championship the previous season (2024-25).
As recently as 2018–19, Cardiff were a Premier League team, but they were demoted after just one season. Furthermore, they were demoted this season after spending six years in the Championship.
Real Madrid star Luka Modric has joined Swansea City as a co-owner and investor, and now Gareth Bale may be on his way to follow in his former teammate’s footsteps.
