Die Mannschaft have already secured qualification for the knockout stages ahead of tonight’s match.

Germany take on Ecuador in their final Group E clash in the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2026 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on June 25. The four-time champions sit top of the group and have already qualified for the knockout stages, but they will look for all three points to secure their status as group winners.

Die Mannschaft began their campaign with a 7-1 thrashing of debutants Curacao. Six different players got on the scoresheet for the European giants, but returning goalkeeper Manuel Neuer would have been disappointed not to be able to keep a clean sheet.

Julian Nagelsmann’s men then survived a mighty scare in their next match against Ivory Coast. Franck Kessie’s goal had put the Elephants ahead at the half-hour mark, but Deniz Undav’s brace sealed a comeback win for the German side.

Despite their place in the knockouts being secured, Die Mannschaft still need to win tonight’s game to ensure that they finish in first place and get an easier draw in the Round of 32. A victory tonight will also extend their winning streak to 12 games, which is a national record.

Thoughts on the lineup

Despite having secured the qualification, Nagelsman has refused to give some fringe players a start in tonight’s match. Manuel Neuer keeps his place between the sticks, once again being preferred over Hoffenheim veteran Oliver Baumann, who was the No. 1 during his side’s qualifying campaign.

Joshua Kimmich retains his place at right-back. However, with Nico Schlotterbeck ruled out of the tournament with an ankle injury, Real Madrid’s Antonio Rudiger starts the match. He is partnered with Jonathan Tah. RB Leipzig’s David Raum starts at left-back.

Aleksandar Pavlovic starts in the middle of the park and will be tasked with controlling the tempo of the contest for his side. He is partnered with Borussia Dortmund’s Felix Nmecha. Jamal Musiala starts in a more advanced role.

Leroy Sane and Florian Wirtz keep their places on the wings. Last match’s hero, Deniz Undav, is once again dropped to the bench by Nagelsmann, with Arsenal’s Kai Havertz continuing in the centre-forward position.
