Germany vs Ivory Coast: Top five players to watch out for in FIFA World Cup 2026 ft. Kai Havertz & Amad Diallo

The two teams will face off tonight in Toronto’s BMO Field.

Germany will look to secure their qualification to the FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 32 when they face Ivory Coast in their second Group E fixture on June 20. After a big win in their opener, the four-time champions need another positive result to join the USA and Mexico in the knockout stages.

Julian Nagelsmann’s side scored seven goals past Curacao, but will be disappointed to concede a goal from the World Cup debutants. Still, it marked the biggest-ever Matchday 1 victory for the Germans in the World Cup. They will now turn their focus to the Ivorians, who could only manage a narrow 1-0 win over Ecuador in their opener.

The Elephants will be looking to put in a more confident performance despite being the underdogs tonight. A win tonight will also put them in contention for qualification to the next stage, which will be a marked improvement after missing out on the World Cup entirely in the last two editions.

The Germany vs Ivory Coast match is being played at BMO Field in Toronto, Canada. The stadium has been renamed Toronto Stadium for the duration of the World Cup. It is the only football-specific stadium in Canada and features a hybrid grass surface.

Although the stadium had a natural grass surface since 2009, it later transitioned to a hybrid pitch to accommodate other sports. The hybrid surface provided more durability while maintaining the look, feel, and performance of natural grass pitches.

The hybrid surface will allow for faster gameplay, with short, quick passes coming into prominence. Wingers can use their pace on the flanks and deliver accurate crosses into the box, with the lush surface providing adequate bounce.

This will suit Germany, who like to play with the ball and utilise their wingers, especially Leroy Sane and Florian Wirtz.

However, both matches played on this ground so far have been low-scoring ones. Canada’s game against Bosnia and Herzegovina ended in a 1-1 draw, and Ghana secured a 1-0 win over Panama.

Where is Germany vs Ivory Coast match being played?

The match is at BMO Field in Toronto, Canada, renamed Toronto Stadium for the World Cup.

What type of pitch does BMO Field have?

It features a hybrid grass surface, combining natural grass with synthetic reinforcement for durability and consistency.
