The Black Starts are looking to seal their place in the World Cup knockouts in tonight’s match.
Ghana take on England in a feisty Group L clash in the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2026 at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, on June 23. The Black Stars, who are coming into the match after a narrow win over Panama, can seal their place in the Round of 32.
Despite being under pressure from Panama in their opening match, the Black Stars found the winner deep into stoppage time. 20-year-old Caleb Yirenkyi was the hero of the night, scoring from close range in the dying seconds to snatch all three points for Carlos Queiroz’s men.
Like England, the African giants will seal progression to the knockouts with another win tonight. Despite being the underdogs in tonight’s match, the Black Stars remain unbeaten against the Three Lions, with their only previous meeting ending in a 1-1 draw.

Let’s look at the Ghana confirmed lineup for the FIFA World Cup 2026 match against England:

Ghana (4-3-3): Benjamin Asare; Marvin Senaya, Jonas Adjetey, Jerome Opoku, Gideon Mensah; Caleb Yirenkyi, Thomas Partey, Kwasi Sibo; Inaki Williams, Jordan Ayew (c), Antoine Semenyo.
Substitutes: Lawrence Ait-Zigi (gk), Joseph Anang (gk), Abdul Mumin, Abdul Rahman Baba, Alidu Seidu, Derrick Luckassen, Kojo Peprah Oppong, Christopher Bonsu Baah, Elisha Owusu, Ernest Nuamah, Kamaldeen Sulemana, Abdul Fatawu, Augustine Boakye, Brandon Thomas-Asante, Prince Adu.
Thoughts on the lineup
Queiroz has had mixed fortunes in terms of his squad’s availability. First-choice goalkeeper Lawrence Ait-Zigi had to come off at half-time against Panama due to an unspecified injury. Although he has since returned to training, media reports claim that he will be out for three weeks, which means Benjamin Asare starts between the sticks.
He will be protected by the centre-back pairing of Wolfsburg’s Jonas Adjetey and former Fulham youngster Jerome Opoku. The Auxerre teammates Marvin Senaya and Gideon Mensah start as full-backs.
In a big boost for the head coach, influential midfielder Thomas Partey returns to the starting lineup. The Villarreal player missed the opening match after being denied entry into Canada because of his pending rape trial, but he is cleared to play in the USA. As a result, he replaces Elisha Owusu in the middle of the park. Partey is joined by last match’s goalscorer, Caleb Yirenkyi, and Real Oviedo’s Kwasi Sibo.
Lyon youngster Ernest Nuamah is replaced by Athletic Bilbao’s Inaki Williams on the right flank, with talismanic forward Antoine Semenyo starting on the left flank. 34-year-old Jordan Ayew, who has 33 goals for his nation, starts in the centre-forward position.
