Giorgio Chiellini, a former Italian football player and Juventus star, has stated his decision in the continuing argument between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo as the finest football player.

When asked to select one for a final at The Overlap on Tour podcast on YouTube, the 40-year-old praised Portuguese superstar Ronaldo above Messi. He did, however, refrain from selecting one player above the other.

According to Giorgio Chiellini, Cristiano improves the team’s performance based on the circumstances when his team most needs them as seen in the matches how the forward always scores crucial goals in big games to lead his side.

The former football player also thinks that even when his team is losing, the Portuguese have the guts to win the match by themselves. Notably, from 2018 to 2021, Chiellini was Ronaldo’s colleague at Juventus, a Serie A team.

Regarding Lionel Messi, Giorgia Chiellini did not play alongside the great Argentine during his playing career, but the two have faced off four times in both club and international competitions. In his most recent podcast, Chiellini selected Al Nassr to play in a final of the AFC Champions League and supported Cristiano Ronaldo, his former teammate from Juventus.

“We cannot say for me, who is better, Messi or Cristiano. But if I have to pick one, for a final, Cristiano. I love to play with Cristiano. And I saw when the game is more difficult, he raises his level of performance,” Chiellini was quoted as saying by Republic World.

“Well, Ronaldo, when you are losing, he had the balls, no matter what, to try to win. Shoot from everywhere in order to lead the team to win. And it is not easy to do for a lot of players. I loved to play with him because working with him and looking at him every day, with little details, is very nice,’ the former Italian footballer said.
