Three goalkeepers FC Barcelona can sign after Marc-Andre ter Stegen injury
The German international will miss the entire 2024-25 season with a knee injury.
Barcelona are in the market for a new goalkeeper as they were hit with a massive blow when their No.1 Marc-Andre ter Stegen picked up an injury when he was collecting the ball from a corner and fell awkwardly on the ground against Villarreal in LaLiga.
When Ter Stegen couldn’t stand up the players had to call the stretchers. The German international was carried away by it and when the reports came it was confirmed that Ter Stegen had ruptured the patella tendon in his right knee, this meant that the goalkeeper would be out for an entire season.
Now the Catalan club will have to look for a top replacement who can fill in his position and with that, we bring three solid options who will be an optimal replacement for Ter Stegen.
3. Claudio Bravo
If Barcelona want to bring a goalkeeper who knows the club inside out then it will be Claudio Bravo. The Chilean goalkeeper has played for the club from 2014 to 2016 knows the demands of the team and hopefully won’t take time to get comfortable between the sticks. Bravo has also admitted he will return from retirement if Barcelona are open to considering him as Ter Stegen’s replacement.
Bravo was the first-choice goalkeeper before the German international became the preferred goalie when the former Manchester City custodian left.
2. Wojciech Szczęsny
Wojciech Szczęsny decided to terminate his contract with Juventus despite having a year left on his contract and later announced his retirement from football. But the goalkeeper is technically a free agent and might join a club if gets a chance. The Polish custodian is another impeccable replacement for the German international and if Barcelona feel that they should contact the former Arsenal goalkeeper then he might be willing to take the spot.
1. Keylor Navas
Keylor Navas is currently a free agent and the speculations have revealed that he might be willing to join the club if the Spanish side makes an approach despite the Costa Rican being a former Real Madrid player. The 37-year-old boosts an excellent CV and will be a perfect goalkeeper to take Ter Stegen’s place considering he has played many years at LaLiga and was one of the best shot-stoppers. Hence, it won’t be a concern for him to adapt to the Catalan club system under Hansi Flick.
