Hansi Flick on Lamine Yamal's fitness: I can't say the injury is over

Flick reveals Yamal is still dealing with a slight injury.

Hansi Flick’s squad needed to return to winning ways against Elche, whom they faced a week after their loss to Real Madrid in the October El Clásico.

As early as the ninth minute, Lamine Yamal scored his fourth goal of the season with an assist from Alejandro Balde, giving the Catalans a dazzling start. The 18-year-old displayed courage, determination, and proficiency in the first half, as Barca led 2-1.

Marcus Rashford, a loanee from Manchester United, gave the Catalans the third goal in the 61st minute. The team survived after he was substituted off in the second half due to a slump in play.

Lamine Yamal has generated a lot of discussion in recent days for two reasons. First, for his poor performance on Sunday against Real Madrid, and second, for splitting from his girlfriend.

Coach Hansi Flick reveals Yamal’s injury precaution

Following the victory over Elche, Hansi Flick, who has always respected the youth and trusted him, made the following statement regarding Yamal’s injury status:

“He has to manage his injury; he’s disciplined. He has to train, undergo treatment… he’s doing it. I can’t say the injury is over; it comes and goes. And he has to manage it.”

Notably, Lamine Yamal played 88 minutes on Sunday before being replaced by Roony Bardghji. During that time, he won two of his five defensive duels in addition to helping in the attack.

After the Elche victory, Barcelona won’t have much time to rest because they have two games this week. They will go to Belgium to play Club Brugge in the UEFA Champions League on November 5.

Flick’s team has six points after three games in the continental competition, having won two and lost one. They will, however, be the favourites when they play the Belgian team, who are 11 spots behind the Catalans in 20th place in the standings.

Barca will have to turn their attention to the domestic league shortly after the Champions League match, where they will travel to play Celta Vigo on November 9.
