Hansi Flick reveals why Frenkie de Jong didn't play for Barcelona against Sevilla

The Dutchman was an unused substitute last game.
Barcelona coach Hansi Flick has provided an injury update on Frenkie de Jong. He revealed that the player has not suffered an injury but has discomfort that saw him remain an unused substitute in their 5-1 thrashing of Sevilla.
The Catalan giants ran riot at home when they fired five goals past Sevilla and preserved their top spot in the LaLiga table with 27 points.
One of the highlights of the game was the return of youngster Pablo Gavi, who missed the entirety of last season after suffering an ACL injury during international duty with Spain.
Gavi had a short cameo to gain his fitness. He will hope to once again feature midweek when Barcelona face Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League.
However, their main concern will be if the Dutch midfielder will regain his fitness before their crucial game as his presence will be a lot important for Flick against a top European side.
However, Flick did provide a positive update on De Jong’s injury. He said regarding the Sevilla game: “The plan was for Frenkie to start, but he felt some discomfort on Friday. He was feeling better today but not ready to start. He was an option off the bench”.
It will be interesting to see if De Jong will be fit before their clash against Bayern midweek as Flick would need his first-team player in this important fixture.
De Jong, who recently returned from an ankle injury, missed the game against Sevilla. Fans are a little worried and concerned if the Netherlands international is struggling to remain fit.
Meanwhile, Barcelona will be happy that Gavi has finally returned and also featured for some minutes before their big encounter (Bayern) as the team will need Gavi. He can provide a lot of energy in the game.
Meanwhile, De Jong’s recovery will be determined by the extent of his discomfort. It remains to be seen if he will be available for the Champions League match.
