England will face Spain in final to clinch their first Euro title.

Widely regarded as one of the top footballing nations in history, England is all set to face Spain in the Euro 2024 final at the Olympiastadion in Berlin on July 15, with the hope of finally ending their dreaded 58-year trophy drought.

In the ongoing Euro 2024, England finished the group stage as Group C table-toppers, defeating the likes of Serbia and registering draws against Denmark and Slovenia. They ended the group stage with one win, two draws, two clean sheets, five points, two goals scored, and just a single goal conceded.

During the decisive knockout stages, the Three Lions narrowly edged past underdogs Slovakia in the round of 16 by completing a 2-1 comeback win, courtesy of crucial goals from Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane. This was followed by a thrilling 1-1 (5-3) penalty shootout win against dark horse Switzerland in a closely contested quarterfinal affair.

In the semifinal stage, Gareth Southgate’s side toppled Ronald Koeman’s Netherlands to record a 2-1 comeback win, courtesy of super-sub Ollie Watkins’ last-minute winner, to book their place in the grand finale of the tournament.

Despite entering every major international tournament as one of the favorites to win it all, England has managed to win only one trophy in its entire football history. That triumph was almost six decades ago when the Three Lions won their first and only international trophy in the form of the 1966 World Cup.

In the 1966 World Cup, hosts England were placed in Group 1 alongside the likes of Uruguay, Mexico, and France. The Three Lions enjoyed an unbeaten group stage run in their home tournament as they recorded convincing 2-0 wins against Mexico and France while registering a goalless draw against Uruguay to finish as the table-toppers of their group, with an impressive record of two wins, one draw, three clean sheets, five points (2 points per win system), and four goals scored.

In the quarterfinals, England defeated Argentina 1-0, courtesy of a second-half winner by the legendary striker Geoff Hurst, to advance to the next stage of the competition. During the semifinal round, England narrowly edged past Portugal 2-1, courtesy of Sir Bobby Charlton’s brace, to book their place in the final of the World Cup.

With a jam-packed attendance for the final at Wembley Stadium, Geoff Hurst delivered an iconic performance as his stellar hat trick sealed a historic 4-2 win for England over West Germany at the end of extra time, ultimately lifting the prestigious World Cup in front of their own fans.

However, following this international glory, the Three Lions have endured years of underwhelming performances at major international tournaments. England’s only other instance of participating in a major tournament final was during Euro 2020, which they unfortunately lost on penalties (3-2) to Italy, courtesy of goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma’s heroics.

With the Euro 2024 final just around the corner, the Three Lions, under coach Gareth Southgate, have the perfect opportunity to finally bring it home and add much-needed silverware to their current lackluster trophy cabinet.
