Ronaldo’s absence was the key talking point ahead of their game against Armenia, but the Selecao got the job done without breaking a sweat and picked Armenia apart to secure their place in the tournament.

This will be Ronaldo’s sixth FIFA World Cup participation, which will be a record in men’s football. Ronaldo has already confirmed that this will be his final World Cup.

Moreover, this is the only trophy that has eluded him in his entire career, despite already leading the national team to the Euros and Nations League. Many believe he will only be declared the undisputed goat when he finally wins the World Cup.

Credit should be given to Cristiano Ronaldo for changing the fortunes of his national team, as before his debut, the Selecao had only featured in three World Cups.

Portugal boast a strong squad and are going to give tough competition to other favourite sides in the tournament next year.

In the last World Cup, they reached the quarterfinals but lost to Morocco. But this time around, they will be looking to go further in the competition next year and clinch their first-ever World Cup.

Cristiano Ronaldo, who recently extended his contract with Al-Nassr until 2027, will turn 41 when he plays his last World Cup and will certainly be the starter for every game and lead the attacking line.
