Have Liverpool made a wise decision by handing Mohamed Salah a new contract?

Salah’s story with the Reds will continue.
Liverpool handing a two-year contract to Mohamed Salah is a further indication of trust and belief that the club feels the player has more history to write with them.
If Salah had chosen to leave Anfield on a free transfer when his current £350,000-per-week contract expires at the end of this season, he would have received substantial offers from other teams, even though he will turn 33 in June.
The availability of this elite player, who is still as motivated as ever and appears to be at the height of his physical abilities, would have drawn interest from the biggest European teams as well as from the Saudi Pro League.
The Fenway Sports Group (FSG), the owner of Liverpool, retained the player who the supporters have dubbed “the Egyptian King” right away, proving that it is ready to stray from the “Moneyball” mentality that has historically made it hesitant to provide hefty contracts to anyone over thirty.
FSG has quickly admitted that Salah is a unique case due to his form and fitness at the club.
Will Salah continue to make a similar impact for two years?
However, many would argue that handing Salah a two-year deal could be an unwise decision given that he is now in his mid-30s. It has been doubted whether he will be able to deliver consistently at the club. However, Salah’s number proves otherwise.
Mohamed Salah set the record with 44 goals and 14 assists in 52 games during his incredible debut season at Liverpool. However, the fact that he only played 31 minutes in that season’s Champions League final in Kyiv, where he was fouled by Sergio Ramos in a 3-1 loss to Real Madrid, only serves to highlight the harm done.
He bounced back by scoring from the penalty when Liverpool defeated Tottenham in the subsequent year’s final in Madrid.
Salah’s lowest goal total in a full season occurred in the 2020-21 campaign when he “only” scored 23 goals as Liverpool won the title for the first time in 30 years, which is evidence of his consistent influence on the pitch.
Salah is currently in third place in Liverpool’s highest goal scorers list with a total of 243 goals in 394 appearances. He has overtaken Gordon Hodgson (241) and the great Billy Liddell (228) this season.
He still lags behind all-time record scorer Ian Rush (346) and 1966 World Cup winner Roger Hunt (285). At 182 goals in 281 games, he is currently Liverpool’s top Premier League scorer.
Have Liverpool made a wise decision to give Mohamed Salah a two-year deal?
What Salah has achieved at the club certainly deserves a contract extension; otherwise, it would have been disrespectful to see him leave the club as a free agent. But the major talk has been whether the Reds will rely on the former AS Roma player for more than two years.
Handing Salah a two-year contract was a wise decision in many ways, as the club will have enough time to find his long-term replacement. Once they feel they have found an ideal candidate, they could also put the player on the transfer list next season. His exit might aid the club financially, given many Saudi clubs are keen to bring the forward to the Middle East by offering a massive fee.
Moreover, the forward will be motivated to win an individual prize next season, given how impressive he has been this campaign. However, the Reds’ exit from the Champions League affected Salah’s chances of winning the Ballon d’Or. But now he has two more seasons to lead the Reds to every trophy possible and finally lift the Ballon d’Or.
Hence, keeping Salah would result in a beneficial edge for the club. The forward will also aspire to hit unprecedented levels with the club.
