How David Moyes' appointment has brought much needed firepower to Everton frontline

The Toffees secured a massive win against Tottenham Hotspur recently

Everton’s dazzling performance clinched a 3-2 victory over a miserable Tottenham Hotspur team, earning David Moyes his first win since returning to Goodison Park for a second stint as manager on Sunday.

While Moyes’ first victory in his second game back was a tremendous result for him, the players, and the supporters—everyone at the club—the manner in which they achieved it was much more significant, particularly for the manager.

They gave the game off in a manner that was almost perfect for this Everton squad. They started the game ahead of Tottenham, scored two goals from open play—which has been extremely difficult to come by—and had the opportunity to score more if circumstances had gone their way.

He still has a lot of work ahead of him to keep them out of relegation jeopardy, but he is up and running now and knows he has something to work with, especially up front. Of course, this is only the beginning.

The two things Everton have been most missing this season are goals and an attacking threat.

How Moyes’ appointment has brought desire in Everton to win games

Moyes has built a great reputation in the Premier League despite earlier failures as a manager. His time at West Ham United solidified his status as one of the most underrated head coaches. Following his exit it was clearly visible how they have struggled without him.

Now his time at Everton will once again be assessed as he pulls the Toffees from the shackles of failure. Although Moyes’s style of play can be exciting, it is also incredibly demanding, which makes playing under him tough.

That process is just getting started because Moyes has just recently taken over, but he has an advantage in another regard, which is his knowledge of Goodison Park.

He has overseen more matches in the Premier League there than any other Everton manager, so he knows the crowd’s characteristics, expectations, and reactions, as well as when they can best support the team.

The crowd will react if you quickly emerge from the traps, aggressively press the opposition, and coerce them into making mistakes. That’s just what transpired against Spurs, and it inspired greater performance from the players.

Early on, Everton prevailed tactically, but they also outmanoeuvred Tottenham. Spurs couldn’t find any momentum until they were exhausted toward the end.

What can Moyes bring to Everton this season?

Everton fans reacted positively to Moyes because of the type of first-half performance we witnessed against Spurs, but he will not be going overboard because we know him.

His background will be crucial. In addition to being older, he is also more sage in terms of understanding when to allow his feelings to influence the group.

Of course, some Evertonians may be thinking they were mistaken at the moment, but they didn’t necessarily believe his return was a positive thing.

Even after a significant victory like this one, he always loves to keep his players hungry, so even though there will have been a lot of congratulations, he will have also pointed out areas for improvement. This is his method of encouraging you to aim higher.
