The former Bayern star has already scored ten goals in nine LaLiga matches.

Barcelona‘s 3-0 win against Deportivo Alaves saw them remain at the summit of the LaLiga table. It was all thanks to Robert Lewandowski’s hat-trick which secured the Spanish club a convincing victory.

This also saw the Polish striker take his LaLiga goal tally to 10 goals in nine matches already. It is a terrific start from Lewandowksi given how he struggled to score goals previous campaign.

Meanwhile, last season the former Bayern Munich hitman had just 19 goals in the league. Given now he already has 10 goals, we can expect him to reach 30 goals this term if he continues his scoring form under Flick.

But what has changed? The former Borussia Dortmund striker was linked with an exit during the summer transfer window. The Spanish club who were looking for a replacement, in January, had even brought in Viktor Roque. Roque was seen as the successor of Lewandowski. But fast forward to the current season, he has been loaned out to Real Betis.

Now Barcelona are once again dependent on Lewandowski to lead their centre-forward line this season. But under Flick, he has been a different beast.

How Flick has unlocked Lewandowski’s goalscoring touch at Barcelona?

This is not the first time Lewandowski has played under Flick. The duo have worked together at Bayern Munich where they led them to an unprecedented sextuple.

Lewandowski was a prodigious goal-scorer at the time. Under the former Germany coach, he amassed an incredible 83 goals and 19 assists in 71 games—a stupendous record for a striker of his calibre.

Now we can see him playing at his potential once again despite the age of 36. Flick has truly unlocked Lewandowski’s goalscoring attributes once again at Barcelona.

But how Lewandowski is doing that and why did he fail to accomplish that under Xavi? Well, Flick is using the former Dortmund striker differently. The 36-year-old is now getting in more goalscoring positions averaging more than 0.85 xG per 90.

He is now also averaging 0.8 goals per 90 which is spectacular for a striker at the age of 36. During this campaign, we are seeing plenty of changes. He is now not dropping deep to form numerical superiority in the middle of the pitch instead he is making in-behind runs of the opposition’s defence. This is helping to create space by stretching the midfield, allowing his teammates to provide the ball between the lines and then attack the opposition.

This has allowed his teammates to generate more chances with his off-the-ball movements and create the space which the opposition defender leaves behind.

Hence, we are witnessing a different Lewandowksi under Flick. If he continues with this sort of performance then we can expect him to end the season as the top scorer once again.
