How many EFL Cup have Newcastle United won in their history?

The Magpies faced Liverpool in the EFL Cup final.

In English football, Newcastle United have long been considered a sleeping giant. The team boasts one of the largest fan followings in the nation, if not the entire world.

The Magpies, who lost to Manchester United in the 2022–2023 EFL Cup final, will believe that they had a good chance of winning that match. Newcastle and Eddie Howe entered the game without Nick Pope, their first-choice keeper, but Loris Karius played well, even though he gave up two goals. Newcastle lost the final 2-0.

Since the club were acquired by Saudi Arabia, this was the first time the team had had the chance to win some silverware. To begin their goals of making Newcastle a formidable force in every tournament and a topic of discussion at the beginning of each new season, the Magpies have seen a lot of transformation in past years.

Newcastle had previously participated in finals, losing to Manchester City 2-1 in the 1976 final and 2-0 to Manchester United in the 2023 final.

Even though Newcastle have advanced to two finals, they have never won the League Cup, which is a disheartening reality that many supporters have had to face. However, many Tyne residents don’t anticipate this to be a problem for very long.

How many EFL Cups have Newcastle United won in their history?

The team has won the FA Cup six times while taking home the EFL Cup once. The Inter-Cities Fairs Cup, which the Magpies won in 1969, was their last significant trophy prior to the 2024-25 season’s EFL Cup.

The 2022–23 season was Newcastle’s best last opportunity to win the EFL Cup. However, they fell short against Man Utd. But the owners will be happy with the club’s progress after reaching the second final in three years.

After a year, they reached the final of the EFL Cup once again and as they hoped to finally add the trophy to their cabinet, a 2-1 win over Liverpool gave the dream a reality in their history.
