The Magpies, who lost to Manchester United in the 2022–2023 EFL Cup final, will believe that they had a good chance of winning that match. Newcastle and Eddie Howe entered the game without Nick Pope, their first-choice keeper, but Loris Karius played well, even though he gave up two goals. Newcastle lost the final 2-0.

Since the club were acquired by Saudi Arabia, this was the first time the team had had the chance to win some silverware.
