The Premier League runners-up are the opponent if the same side wins both the league and the FA Cup. As the first game of the English football season, the match is customarily played in early August and serves more as a ceremonial curtain-raiser than a significant competitive honour.

Last season, we had different winners in the FA Cup and the league, with Crystal Palace winning the FA Cup and the Reds lifting the Premier League.
