The centre-back was sent off in their previous game.
Manchester United’s appeal over Lisandro Martinez’s red card against Leeds United was unsuccessful. For pulling forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s hair during Monday night’s 2-1 loss, Martinez received a straight red.
On-pitch referee Paul Tierney failed to see the “violent conduct” incident; VAR John Brooks suggested that Tierney check the pitchside monitor.
Martinez will now be absent from United’s Saturday night trip to Chelsea as well as their upcoming trips to Brentford and Liverpool.
The three most experienced centre-backs for United, Harry Maguire, Lisandro Martinez, and Matthijs de Ligt, will not be present at Stamford Bridge.
Maguire already faced a red card before the Leeds game after he was sent off against Bournemouth, while the Dutch centre-back is still recovering from an injury.
Lisandro Martinez, who was controversially sent out for grabbing Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s hair, will serve out his entire three-match punishment, according to Michael Carrick.
The decision infuriated Carrick, who at the time called it “shocking” in an interview with Sky Sports.
Carrick comments on Lisandro Martinez’s suspension

Carrick clarified on Friday that Martinez would serve his entire three-match punishment for violent behaviour, but he would not confirm if United had sent an appeal.
“We didn’t agree with [the decision], it’s obvious how I felt after the game, and I still feel that way now,” he declared. “I don’t want to go into it now, it is what it is. We have to accept it and move on.”
Carrick is now left with a few options for the defensive line. It appears he might put Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven at the back against the Blues.
With only a handful of games left, United wouldn’t want to lose any of them. Losing could hurt their chances of qualifying for the Champions League next season.
