The Frenchman could receive only a one-match ban.

After his terrifying challenge during Los Blancos’ victory over Alaves, Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe is believed to have escaped a lengthy suspension.

In a fierce match that saw one red card for each team, Real Madrid defeated Deportivo Alaves 1-0 on Sunday. With the ball far from the Frenchman’s outstretched leg, Mbappe lunged in studs up on Alaves midfielder Antonio Blanco’s shin. This move earned him the first dismissal of the match.

Following Kylian Mbappe’s dismissal, there were rumours that the Real Madrid forward may be suspended for a long time—roughly five games. This was because the tackle could have been considered a serious offence.

However, according to Spanish publication COPE, Kylian Mbappe is probably only going to receive a one-match suspension. Referee Cesar Soto Grado observed that the forward was vying for the ball when he entered the duel.

The tackle looked intentional with the way the former Paris Saint-Germain lunged his boots on the opposition’s player. It looked like he only wanted to foul the player.

According to the Spanish federation’s guidelines, suspensions given in LaLiga are applicable in all domestic matches. So, if the incident involving Mbappe and Blanco is considered a serious offence, the Frenchman can miss Real Madrid’s Copa del Rey final against Barcelona on April 26.

Kylian Mbappe is going to miss Real Madrid’s LaLiga match against Athletic Club on Sunday, April 20. He is expected to be allowed to play in the encounter against Getafe and the cup final against Barcelona. This is only if he is only given a one-match suspension.

Mbappe seems to be enduring a short dry spell. The forward has zero goals in the last four matches for Madrid. They will next face Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League second-leg on Wednesday. The Spanish team will expect the Frenchman to steer his side to a comeback at Bernabeu tomorrow.
