Hugo Lloris gives verdict on Lionel Messi & Kylian Mbappe comparisons

Messi and Mbappe have played together at PSG.
Hugo Lloris has dismissed any parallels between Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe, calling Argentina’s greatest player “unique.”
Eight-time winner of the Ballon d’Or, Messi, the most decorated player in history, defeated former Paris Saint-Germain teammate Mbappe’s France in 2022 to add a World Cup title to his already impressive prize collection. The Frenchman won the competition in 2018 and already has a winner’s medal to show for it.
At 33 goals in his first season at Real Madrid, Mbappe is further solidifying his status as another “Galactico.” In order to establish a legacy among the greats, he has his sights set on acquiring his first Ballon d’Or.
In response to a question about whether Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi share the same talent pool, fellow countryman Lloris told La Nacion: “Is Mbappe is similar to Messi? No, Messi is unique. It is absolutely impossible to compare him to anyone.”
Lloris added on Messi helping to defend the World Cup title in 2026: “I don’t see Argentina without Messi in the next World Cup. I think it will be with Messi. He still plays and enjoys football. It’s his decision, but of course we want to continue to see him play. I have a lot of admiration for Leo. For me he is at the top of the list of the best players, without a doubt. I’m from the generation that was able to watch and play against Leo.”
Messi is now playing for Inter Miami in the United States and has changed the fortunes of the MLS and his club. The forward has already led the Herons to the Leagues Cup and Supporters’ Shield. This season, the World Cup winner will look to win the MLS Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.
Meanwhile, Lloris is getting ready for another encounter with Messi as LAFC prepare to play Inter Miami in the first leg of their CONCACAF Champions Cup quarterfinal on Wednesday at BMO Stadium in California.
