Hungary and Switzerland are both in Group A of the UEFA Euro 2024. These two European teams have come a long way in the last two decades. They have consistently grown stronger and better. Hungary and Switzerland, two decades back, used to stand at 87 and 88 positions respectively in FIFA rankings. Today they are at 26 and 19th position respectively. Both teams have a rich football history, as they both started playing officially in the 1930s.

The comparison between both teams is difficult at the current point in time. Also if we look at some of the last few matches, then both the teams have given consistently winning performances. This match is going to be very important for both, as securing points is the priority, also they will be facing formidable opponents like Germany and Scotland later in the group stage.

Players to Watch

Dominik Szoboszlai (Hungary)

This 23-year-old attacking midfielder is one of the most talented players Hungary have ever produced. In qualification matches of UEFA Euro, he has scored multiple times for his team and the same is expected in the group stage. Szoboszlai plays for Liverpool FC in the premier league where he scored thrice in 33 matches and assisted twice. Against Switzerland, he can be the one to pose the maximum threat to the defenders.

Ruben Vargas (Switzerland)

Ruben Vargas, a 25-year-old attacking midfielder, is one of the most important players in Switzerland’s line-up. He has been consistently performing for his national team and club FC Augsburg in the Bundesliga. While playing for Augsburg in 31 matches in the 2023-24 season, he scored four times and also assisted four times. His play-making and scoring skills can pose a serious threat to the defenders of Hungary.
