Seleção das Quinas bagged a 2-1 victory.
The Portugal national football team is coming in after a contest in their final friendly outing ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. It was a decent performance by them. They will now play their opening game of the mega competition on June 17 against DR Congo.
The Roberto Martinez-led side has top-of-the-line players all across the field. Between the sticks, it is FC Porto’s league-title-winning captain Diogo Costa. Forming the strong back line are Ruben Dias, Goncalo Inacio, Diogo Dalot and Nuno Mendes.
Portugal have one of the strongest midfields at the moment. They have UEFA Champions League winner Joao Neves and Vitinha. Along with them, the astonishing Bruno Fernandes of Manchester United is controlling the midfield.
Up in the frontline, they have Cristiano Ronaldo, Rafael Leao and Francisco Conceicao. Seleção das Quinas have several good options to be on the bench as well.
After their decent performance in the first-half against Nigeria, Portugal made seven changes to the team.

Five important things we learned
1. Portugal’s high-pressing
Roberto Martinez’s men did a lot of high pressing in the first half of the field. They did come up with multiple chances on the goal, but were only able to find the net once in the first half. Their aggressive play style looked good, and they might be looking to adopt this for the FIFA World Cup 2026. This can be more useful for them if the attackers show more efficiency in the final third.
2. Cristiano Ronaldo’s missed chances
The 41-year-old was on the field for the Portugal national football team for a total of 65 minutes. He got to have three good chances, with two in the first half and one in the second. Cristiano Ronaldo failed to score a goal for his side. CR7 did come up with some decent passes and also remains the first-choice striker for Roberto Martinez at the moment. Ronaldo will be looking to perform better next time around.
3. Supersub Francisco Conceicao to the rescue
The Juventus star came on at the start of the second half. He was a continuous threat for the opponent’s defence on the right flank. In the 75th minute, Francisco Conceicao came up with a sweet strike from outside of the box and scored the match-winner for Portugal to lead them to a 2-1 win.
3. Midfield remains biggest weapon for Portugal
With strong and skilful players in midfield, the Portugal national football team never looked out of control. Stars like Bruno Fernandes, Vitinha and Joao Neves did a good job in the first half. Bernardo Silva and Ruben Neves came on in the second half and helped Seleção das Quinas control the half well.
4. Defensive concerns still exist for the Portuguese
Despite having players like Ruben Dias, Goncalo Inacio, Diogo Dalot and Nelson Semedo, Portugal conceded a goal in the first half, which did put them under some pressure. They did concede a late goal in their friendly against Chile. Roberto Martinez’s men must do better defensively if they want to excel at the FIFA World Cup 2026.
5. Portugal’s strong squad depth
This is going to be a plus point for the Portugal national football team. They came up with seven changes at the start of the second half, but continued to control the pace of the game well. With strong players both on and at the sidelines, Seleção das Quinas will be calm and confident on the grandest stage of them all.
