The Nerazzurri remain the side to watch out for this Italian first-tier league season.

Inter Milan had a fabulous campaign last season as they secured their 20th Scudetto title after a record-breaking season. They won the league by a dominant margin of 19 points. Simone Inzaghi has done a wonderful job of guiding the Nerazzurri to be among the best sides in Europe.

This season they have further strengthened the team after making some excellent additions to the squad. There is an excellent blend of experience and youth in the squad which will benefit the team to a larger extent. Inzaghi will surely have a huge headache this season to select his best eleven with the team filled out with outstanding talents in each position.

Let’s take a look at the predicted lineup that can create havoc for Inter Milan in the Serie A 2024-25 season:

Inter Milan predicted lineup (Formation: 3-5-2)

Goalkeeper: Yann Sommer

Last season Nerazzurri made a smart piece of business by bringing in Yann Sommer. He was a rock in the goal after keeping 19 clean sheets in the league, the most by any. The goalkeeper also faced a staggering 100 shots of which he managed to save 80.

Sommer had an 80.8% save percentage last season. It was the best in the league by a margin. Also, he has fitted the profile brilliantly of what Simone Inzaghi was looking for a goalkeeper who is comfortable with the ball at his feet and can also act as a sweeper keeper when needed.

Centre-Back: Benjamin Pavard

Benjamin Pavard, a world champion with France, has gone strength to strength for his new club after making the move from Bayern Munich. Last season was an outstanding debut season for him as he made 31 appearances for the team providing three assists. While he is a wonderful passer of the ball, highlighted by his 91.6% passing accuracy last term, Pavard was a rock at the back after playing the whole season without getting dispossessed for a single time.

Centre-Back: Francesco Acerbi

Francesco Acerbi has been a brilliant presence at the back for Nerazzurri. He brings years of experience to the side after smashing over 500 appearances in club football for different clubs. Despite turning 36 years old this year, he seems to not slow down.

He will aim to guide the team to another successful Serie A season. Acerbi is an excellent reader of the game. He senses the danger by acting on it before it becomes a problem for the team.

Centre-Back: Alessandro Bastoni

Unlike Pavard and Acerbi, Alessandro Bastoni is an all-round defender in the team. He does the defensive duties excellently while also helping the team in the attacking phase, through his marauding runs from the back. Bastoni has a wonderful left foot as he can put some excellent crosses for his attackers, evidenced by his 23 chances created for the team last term, from the left-hand side.

Right Wing-Back: Denzel Dumfries

Denzel Dumfries is an attack-minded player who is known for his tenacious industry from the right-hand side of the pitch. The Netherlands international is known for his burst of pace and ability to make some excellent runs with the ball down the right side. Last season, Dumfries made 36 appearances for the team contributing four goals and five assists. While his attacking contributions speak out, he equally helps the team defensively.

Central Midfield: Nico Barella

Nico Barella has emerged as an important player for the team after putting on a series of impressive performances throughout the 2023-24 season. His ability to score some thunderous goals while also covering a huge amount of ground has made him a huge favourite among the fans. Unlike other midfielders, Barella is a versatile and hardworking player who can fill in any position across the midfield and front three.

Central Midfield: Hakan Calhanoglu

Probably the most technically sound player in the team. Hakan Calhanoglu runs the show for Nerazzurri with his exquisite passing. While helping out the team defensively, Calhanoglu made a huge contribution to the team in the final third as he can swing some wonderful balls from set-pieces while also scoring some spectacular freekicks with his excellent techniques. Last season was a record-breaking campaign for him as he scored 15 goals for the first time in his career.

Central Midfield: Henrikh Mkhitaryan

While Calhanoglu and Barella bring more dynamism to the side, it is Henrikh Mkhitaryan who brings the composure. He becomes a threat to the opposition side through his excellent distribution of ball and link-up play, which at times is exciting to watch. Last season, he racked up some impressive numbers. It included 182 ball recoveries and 34 tackles won while also creating 40 goal-scoring chances for the team.

Left Wing-Back: Federico Dimarco

Federico Dimarco has cemented himself as the regular left-back for club and country in a short time after displaying some eye-catching performances. The loan spell at Hellas Verona in the 2020-21 season was a great learning curve for him as he worked on his skills there. Fast forward to this season, Dimarco is set to play a huge role for the team going forward with UCL, League and Coppa Italia to pay for.

Striker: Marcus Thuram

The Nerazzurri are known for exploring the market for top free-agent players who have the potential to become an excellent addition to the squad. Marcus Thuram is one such success story who had an impressive debut campaign for the team last season after helping them win the Serie A and Super Cup. He scored an impressive 15 goals for the team while also laying on seven assists for the team. Thuram has developed a fantastic performance with Lautaro Martinez upfront with the deadly duo set to play again an important role this season.

Striker: Lautaro Martinez

Lautaro Martinez is currently one of the best strikers in world football. He played a massive role in Inter Milan’s double and Argentina’s Copa America triumph in 2024. He finished as the top scorer in both competitions (Serie A & Copa America). The forward even netted the only goal for Argentina in the final against Colombia which secured the trophy for them.

Last season, he scored 27 goals for the team. It was enough for him to win the Golden Boot for his excellent contribution to the team.
