Is Arsenal’s Premier League title challenge already over?
Mikel Arteta will hope to bring the trophy to Emirates Stadium this season.
Arsenal have had a slow start to the new Premier League season. They have accumulated only seven points with three games into the campaign. However, the Gunners have already seen many of their key players picking up injuries left and right.
This could prove to be a big blow for the club and their title prospect. Their rival Manchester City are on top of the table. Meanwhile, Liverpool under Arne Slot have also performed excellently and second in the standings.
This is concerning for Mikel Arteta’s side who have assembled such a quality squad throughout his stint. The club have come close twice to winning the league under him. But both times, 2022-23 & 2023-24, they have missed out on lifting the title to Man City.
This is a pity for the former Gunners player, who has given his everything to build the club from scratch since he arrived here. This season he was hoping that they would finally end their title drought. But it seems like their title ambitions have been affected way sooner than we expected.
Arsenal’s mounting injuries have continued to increase. It is certainly concerning because those who suffered injuries are the main players. Their presence can decide a game.
Why Arsenal’s title hopes could already be over? The key injured players revealed
One of the most important Arsenal players, Martin Odegaard suffered an ankle injury during the international break. It remains to be seen for how long he will be sidelined. Arsenal will now have to wait anxiously to find out how serious the injury is.
The extent of Odegaard’s injury will determine how long he will stay out of the action. Odegaard’s presence in the middle of the pitch provides the team with a better rhythm in the game. His absence will certainly affect their performance and it’s definitely bad for them.
Riccardo Calafiori is another star who is injured. Arteta won’t be stressing over his absence as he has Jurrien Timber who can operate as left-back. New signing Mikel Merino suffered a shoulder injury while training with the Gunners. He will be out for a long period of time.
It won’t be a big deal but had he been available then Arteta could have used him in Odegaard’s place. Takehiro Tomiyasu is set to miss lengthy time out of action with a knee injury. Arteta already has his replacement, with Ben White operating as a right-back.
Odegaard is the main player that Arteta will miss the most because he provides leadership and a significant influence from the middle of the pitch.
However, until Odegaard is sidelined, Arteta will undoubtedly find a method to balance the midfield. They shouldn’t be too concerned and hopefully, it won’t interfere with their hopes of winning the championship this season.
