Reece James injury: Is Chelsea captain available for Manchester City Premier League clash?

The Blues will host City in a Premier League game this weekend.
Reece James has made 36 appearances across all competitions this season, his highest since 2021–2022 and has generally avoided any serious injuries.
However, a hamstring injury has kept the Chelsea captain out of action since mid-March, sparking concerns that he might be suffering from another long-term setback.
Reece James missed the most recent England camp and last played in his team’s 1-0 defeat at Newcastle on March 14.
Prior to last weekend’s 7-0 FA Cup quarterfinal thrashing of Port Vale, Liam Rosenior said the right-back was making significant progress in his recuperation.
Rosenior comments on Reece James’ availability against Manchester City
Rosenior hasn’t been able to offer any assurance.
“I don’t know,” he said when asked if James could be involved against City.
“We work day-to-day, so I don’t want to give a timeline and not come through with that timeline, put pressure on those players, but they’re all working really, really well at this moment.”
Given his history of injuries, it appears that this weekend’s game may be too soon for Reece James.
Reece James will be hoping to participate in the 2026 World Cup with England, which is just a few months away, and Chelsea won’t want to run the risk of making his hamstring issue worse. If he stays healthy, the 26-year-old could play a significant role for the Three Lions this summer.
Chelsea’s tough run of fixtures
As Rosenior’s team aims to finish in the top five of the Premier League and earn a Champions League spot, Chelsea will also be hoping that he returns for the pivotal final few weeks of the season.
The Blues have a hectic schedule ahead of them. After the City game, they will visit Manchester United, then travel to Brighton & Hove Albion before playing Leeds United in the FA Cup semi-final on April 25.
