The full-back won his first LaLiga title with FC Barcelona.
Portuguese full-back João Cancelo caused a great deal of controversy after making scathing remarks about the Al Hilal club. He claimed that he encountered an unforeseen circumstance while playing for the team and that he is now enjoying fresh successes in Europe.
In an interview with the media, the player disclosed that he had been guaranteed a spot in the squad by one of the Al-Hilal officials. But he was later shocked to be left out without any assurances.
Joao Cancelo attacks Al Hilal following LaLiga title win
Coach Simone Inzaghi decided to register Brazilian attacker Marcos Leonardo in the Saudi Pro League squad instead of him after he sustained a muscular ailment.
João Cancelo told DAZN:
“Someone at Al Hilal lied to me. They told me I was gonna be included in Saudi League squad, but then I was left out. I decided to move forward, I’m here, I won a title at Barcelona, I’m happy.“
After FC Barcelona defeated Real Madrid in the El Clásico, the player was crowned with the trophy. It helps add a fresh accomplishment to his already impressive career of winning trophies in several major European leagues.
Before adding LaLiga title to his record, Cancelo had already won in England, Germany, and Italy, making him the first player to win the league title in four major European leagues.
The player’s outstanding achievements during his loan stint with Barcelona confirmed his substantial technical value. He participated in 20 games, scored one goal, and assisted three more.
Given his present performance in Europe, while Cancelo’s contract with Al Hilal expires in the summer of 2027, it will open up several choices for his future.
