Textor is also a co-owner of Crystal Palace.

The protracted process of finding new owners for Everton has advanced. US billionaire John Textor was given the exclusive right to negotiate the purchase of Farhad Moshiri’s majority stake.

Textor, who owns 45% of Crystal Palace, a Premier League team, has signed an agreement with Farhad Moshiri. Moshiri is the current owner of the Toffees.

According to The Athletic, any agreement would need Textor to give up his ownership of Palace through Eagle Football Group. Who so? Because it’s against Premier League regulations for one individual to control two teams in the same division.

In recent months, Everton have seen two acquisition efforts shelved. First, 777 Partners’ proposal fell through. Then in July, The Friedkin Group (TFG) withdrew from talks.

Moreover, Textor is additionally working on a deal to add to the Eagle Group’s stakes. He is interested in Botafogo of Brazil and Molenbeek of Belgium.

For the Merseyside club, Textor announced his intention. “I am still the owner of Palace; I would have to vacate that before I could purchase anything else,” he declared. We have expressed our desire to own a majority stake in any UK club, Premier League or Championship.

“Yes, we are looking at Everton along with everybody else. I would have to rationalise my interest in Palace before I could close anything.

“I am an Anglophile when it comes to football. When I see these legendary teams come along, some in the Premier League, some in the Championship, clubs that I grew up with, they have an appeal. They also have an appeal to our business model because if I follow these great teams, then so do athletes around the world.”

Everton supporters will welcome any event that results in Moshiri—who acquired majority ownership in the team in 2016—leaving the club, since they have witnessed a sharp downturn under his direction.

The team reported losses of around £400 million between 2019 and 2023. Also, they have twice violated the Premier League’s rules regarding profitability and sustainability. Despite losing eight points as a result of such infractions, under Sean Dyche, they were still able to compete and save their spot in the top division for this upcoming season.
