Juan Mata joins A-League side Western Sydney Wanderers
The former United player has penned a deal with the Australian team.
Juan Mata just signed a new contract with the Western Sydney Wanderers in the A-League after winning leagues in Turkey and Japan.
His goal is to win another title in a foreign nation. Signing Mata is a huge step forward for Australian football. Mata left Vissel Kobe on January 6, 2024, when his contract with the team expired.
He is going to start playing in the A-League Men for the Australian club. Out of the 13 clubs in the league, Western Sydney Wanderers are now ranked 12th.
The former Chelsea player had a fantastic football career, representing numerous elite European teams. Prior to joining Valencia, he played in the Real Madrid academy.
After making a name for himself as a Spanish player during his time at Valencia, Mata moved to Chelsea in 2011. On May 19, 2012, in the 2012 UEFA Champions League final against Bayern Munich, Mata helped Didier Drogba equalise the score with a header off a corner kick in the 88th minute. Chelsea prevailed after the game went into extra time and penalties.
His tenure at Chelsea came to an end when Jose Mourinho brought him to Manchester United, where he established himself as a household figure.
He stayed for several years there. After his contract expired, he joined Galatasaray for a single campaign before moving on to Vissel Kobe.
Now that Mata is headed to Western Sydney Wanderers, his arrival will be regarded as an outstanding acquisition because it will add expertise to the team.
Juan Mata, a former player for Chelsea and Manchester United, has joined the Wanderers in red and black for the upcoming campaign.
The season-opening Sydney derby at CommBank Stadium in Parramatta on 19 October will have even more intrigue now that Mata, 36, has signed a one-year contract with Alen Stajcic’s team.
The seasoned midfield player has one of the most impressive résumés ever seen in Australian club football. He even won the 2010 World Cup in Spain.
