Napoli star Kevin De Bruyne ruled out for months with hamstring injury

The midfielder picked up the injury against Inter Milan.

Due to a high-grade hamstring rupture, Kevin De Bruyne will probably be out for months.

After appearing to strain a muscle while converting a penalty in the first half and instantly grabbing his right thigh, the Napoli midfielder was tested after suffering an injury against Inter Milan.

The very agitated Belgian had to be helped off the field by medical personnel. Tests later showed a severe hamstring injury. On Monday, the club said that he had already started the rehabilitation procedure while confirming the news.

“I live the game with my players, for better or for worse,” Napoli head coach Antonio Conte said after the game.

“We won despite the difficulties, we have important players absent and now De Bruyne has also been injured. Let’s say it’s not a very lucky year, maybe someone has cursed us.”

Kevin De Bruyne’s penalty, his fourth goal of the season, opened the scoring before he hobbled off the pitch after just 37 minutes. However, Napoli still ended up winning 3-1.

After losing to Torino last weekend and to PSV Eindhoven (6-2) in the Champions League on Tuesday, the team has had a mixed start to the campaign. But they recovered with a 3-1 win against Inter.

Although Kevin De Bruyne’s absence, which is anticipated to last three to four months, is another setback for a team already dealing with an injury crisis, Conte’s team leads the Serie A table.

However, this isn’t the first time Kevin De Bruyne has had a history of hamstring problems; in August 2023, he had surgery on the same leg and missed four months of the season for Manchester City.
