Kevin Durant set to become minority stakeholder in PSG
Durant plays for the basketball team Phoenix Suns.
Famous basketball player Kevin Durant is on the verge of buying a minority stake in Paris Saint-Germain. The player is set to invest in PSG. An agreement is understood to be close.
Durant grew popular playing basketball and became one of the wealthiest sports players. In 2016, he joined the Golden State Warriors from the Oklahoma Thunder, created an impressive basketball team with Steph Curry and Klay Thompson, and went on to win the NBA Championship in 2017 and 2018.
Moreover, he was part of the USA basketball team that participated in the Paris Olympics and won the gold medal. In 2016, he also established Thirty-Five Ventures with his long-time manager Rich Kleiman. It has continued to transform into a prominent portfolio with interests in sports, entertainment, artificial intelligence, health and fitness.
Now PSG are set to have a new minority stakeholder. But it is unknown how much percentage Durant will buy. However, he is definitely going to be one of the most famous figures at the club.
This will further boost the status of PSG in the USA and attract more attention to the club. Given that the basketball player is very famous in his country.
It will be a big coup for the Ligue 1 club. Another issue Durant will be able to solve is bringing broadcast rights, given that PSG currently have no broadcast partner in the US.
Moreover, the Ligue 1 side are going to be in the USA for the FIFA Club World Cup, and Durant will be present there to promote the club. This is an excellent plan. The French club will be among other top European clubs at the event, garnering more attention towards the club.
This can be a big advantage for PSG to become more popular in the USA like Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester United. It will also help the club financially.
Kevin Durant can also bring his ambitions and ideas to the club to bring in new players that can help the team challenge for big trophies, such as the Champions League this season or next campaign.
