Key takeaways from Manchester United's first training session under Ruben Amorim
A 16-year-old academy player was also spotted during Amorim’s first training session.
Manchester United’s new head coach Ruben Amorim oversaw his first training as their manager. In the training videos, one can see the players playing in different positions.
High expectations have been placed on the Portuguese to change the fortunes of the Premier League club this season after United started the new season in the worst possible way. They are currently sitting 13th in the league table.
After a set of poor results in a row, the Man United board finally decided to make an ultimate decision on Erik ten Hag. The Red Devils fired the Dutchman before things could get worse.
The former Sporting CP manager, Ruben Amorim, has been handed one of the most massive jobs of his career. All eyes will be on his first game as their head coach when United face Ipswich Town on Sunday.
Amorim has already taken his first training as United manager. In this article, we take a look at key takeaways from his first practice regime.
Manchester United’s first training under Ruben Amorim
United’s first training looked full of energy under Amorim as the Portuguese head coach implemented his style of play. He used players in different roles when compared to Ten Hag.
Amorim has high expectations from Mason Mount and Leny Yoro. The coach feels he can get the best out of them. Mount started as a left-attacking midfielder during the practice while Yoro was a Right centre-back.
Casemiro was put in the centre of midfield more as a No.6 and was complimented by Mainoo. Antony was playing as a right-wing back. Tyrell Malacia also took part in the training and was playing as a left-wing back.
Amorim usually uses three at the back, which we should see during the actual matches. Meanwhile, Amad Diallo was given the right attacking midfield position and Marcus Rashford operated as centre forward.
There was a new face in the training session at Carrington Training Centre. United Academy player Godwill Kukonki, 16 years old, also took part in the training with senior players. The 6ft 5in player will hope to be part of more such trainings as he could soon make his first team debut if he impresses Amorim.
While players played in a slightly different position, Amorim also made sure that they kept passing the ball around quickly. The 39-year-old kept looking at his watch and was monitoring how long the players were keeping the ball.
Amorim will hope that players adapt to his style quicker. The United fans will hope to see better results on Sunday. The Ipswich Town match could further indicate how the club will perform under the former Sporting CP head coach.
