The Frenchman missed Los Blancos’ opening Club World Cup game.
Real Madrid have been hit with a major blow as Kylian Mbappe has been sent to a hospital in the United States, after missing his team’s opening match of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 on Wednesday.
In preparation for their opening Group H matchup against Al-Hilal, the 26-year-old practised with his Madrid colleagues in Florida on Sunday.
However, Mbappe did not show up for Tuesday’s training session because, according to Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso, the French striker had a fever.
Mbappe was left off the roster for Wednesday night’s 1-1 draw with Al-Hilal at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium. Mbappe’s absence was felt extremely as the club looked clueless in front of the net for the start of Alonso’s reign as a Madrid coach.
Alonso said after Tuesday’s session:
‘’Kylian was feeling a little better, but not enough. It’s better for him not to train. We’ll wait until the last minute, we’ll decide tomorrow.’’
It was felt that forward has suffered some minor illness and should be fit to play the Spanish club’s next game, but Madrid’s latest report on the former Paris Saint-Germain player might see him remain absent from further matches.
Real Madrid confirm Kylian Mbappe has been hospitalised
After experiencing acute gastroenteritis, Kylian Mbappe is currently being tested at the hospital, according to Madrid. The club’s statement on Thursday read:
“Our player Kylian Mbappe has acute gastroenteritis and has been hospitalised for various tests and treatment.”
Madrid will need Kylian Mbappe in their next fixture as their ineffectiveness in front of the goal was visible. If they are to qualify for the knockout round, then they will have to wear their goalscoring boots, especially Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo, who are the club’s best attacking duo.
They are currently second in Group H. Madrid’s next group match is against Pachuca of Mexico on June 22. On June 27, they will play Red Bull Salzburg.
