Kylian Mbappe eyes another Champions League record; currently held by Cristiano Ronaldo & Lionel Messi

Mbappe has scored four hat-tricks in the Champions League competition in his career already.

Last night, Kylian Mbappe netted his fourth Champions League hat-trick, putting him on pace to surpass the record now held by Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Mbappe has more UCL hat-tricks than players like Neymar, Mario Gomez, and Filippo Inzaghi, following his recent exploits against FC Kairat.

In addition to matching Karim Benzema’s hat-trick total, Mbappe is just 30 goals away from matching his UCL goal total of 90.

Meanwhile, he is also three hat-tricks away from overtaking Robert Lewandowski’s competition treble count.

In September 2022, during his first season with Barcelona, he scored three goals against Viktoria Plzeň in a 5-1 victory, which was his last hat-trick in the competition. If Mbappe scores three more hat-tricks in the upcoming games, he will be able to overtake Lewandowski.

However, if he is to surpass the other two greats of the competition, he will have to put in more effort. But he can certainly eclipse them in the near future.

Messi has scored eight hat-tricks. They came against Arsenal, Viktoria Plzen, Bayer Leverkusen, Ajax, APOEL, Celtic, Manchester City, and PSV.

Mbappe will need to produce four hat-tricks in his next 37 European games to tie Messi’s record in fewer games, or five hat-tricks to surpass him.

As of right now, Messi and Ronaldo share the record with eight hat-tricks apiece. It must be acknowledged, though, that Messi achieved his seventh hat-trick in fewer games than it took CR7.

If Mbappe scores five more hat-tricks in the upcoming UCL games, he can undoubtedly surpass both of them.
