Xabi Alonso reveals positive Kylian Mbappe injury news for Barcelona clash in Spanish Super Cup final

The Frenchman missed the semi-final game of the Spanish Super Cup against Atletico Madrid.
Kylian Mbappé is travelling to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to join Real Madrid ahead of their matchup with FC Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final, according to manager Xabi Alonso.
Since the beginning of the year, the 15-time European champions have been without their top scorer. On the last day of 2025, Mbappé joined Éder Militão in the infirmary after receiving a diagnosis of a sprained left knee.
Real Madrid’s comeback to domestic action, a 5-1 thrashing of Real Betis at the Bernabéu, was missed by the France international. Even though Kylian Mbappé was left out of Alonso’s Spanish Super Cup roster, his team defeated Atlético Madrid 2-1 in the semifinals.
Los Blancos anticipated that their great forward would still be absent for the Barcelona final. However, Alonso disclosed that Kylian Mbappé is “a lot better” and “feeling good,” to the extent that, only days before the impending El Clásico, he departed the Spanish city to take a plane to Jeddah.

Alonso was evasive about the Frenchman’s possible participation in the crucial game, but he acknowledged that Mbappé had a “chance” to play on Sunday at Alinma Bank Stadium.
“He will come to Saudi in the next 24h, he feels much better. He has chances to play,” says Xabi Alonso.
Even if Gonzalo García is leading Real Madrid’s line, Kylian Mbappé is the team’s best chance of winning against Barcelona. The former Paris Saint-Germain player has scored five goals in his last three games versus the Catalans.
Los Blancos will consider anything other than winning the Spanish Super Cup a failure, regardless of the starting lineup Alonso chooses for Sunday.
