Mbappe’s compatriot Ousmane Dembele is the favourite to win the award.

Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe has stated who he wants to win the 2025 Golden Ball and that he would not be attending this year’s Ballon d’Or event.

Despite being LaLiga’s top scorer in his first season at Santiago Bernabeu and scoring 44 goals in all competitions, Mbappe does not believe he is a serious candidate for the Ballon d’Or. It is because Real Madrid did not win any significant prizes.

Mbappe stated that he will not be in Paris to see the 2025 Ballon d’Or presentation and will instead watch the occasion on his home television. This is after starring with a brace in Real Madrid’s comeback victory over Marseille in their Champions League opener at Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday.

Speaking to CBS Sports after the Marseille clash, Mbappe said: “To win it, you have to win things, so I have to help my club win trophies, and after that, we’ll see. I will be happy if [Ousmane] Dembélé wins because he is my friend and I have supported him from the start. I will watch it on TV and hope that he wins it.”

Even though Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal and Raphinha had fantastic seasons last season and the Blaugrana won three domestic titles, Ousmane Dembele is now the clear favourite to win the Ballon d’Or because of his success with Paris Saint-Germain.

The Frenchman helped PSG win the treble, including a UCL trophy, which was their first time, scoring 35 goals in all competitions and 16 assists. Their only setback was when Chelsea crushed them 3-0 to win the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

However, with five games across all competitions at the beginning of the new season and six goals to his name, Mbappe is already putting himself in a great position to win the 2026 Ballon d’Or, the next edition.

Real Madrid’s LaLiga and Champions League campaigns are off to a fantastic start thanks to his outstanding performances; they will next play Espanyol at home on Saturday.
