Los Blancos have long been interested in signing the Arsenal defender.

As per Defensa Central, Real Madrid striker Kylian Mbappe has reportedly asked the team to try to sign William Saliba from Arsenal this summer.

Kylian Mbappe’s request has reportedly rekindled Madrid’s interest in the French defender, who has been an important member of Arsenal’s squad.

It won’t be simple to sign Saliba, though, as Arsenal are anticipated to demand a record-breaking price for their defensive hero.

Madrid have temporarily halted their chase due to their unwillingness to pay such a fee. But they are apparently maintaining contact with Saliba’s agent.

In order to negotiate a cheap transfer in 2026 or possibly a free transfer in 2027, Madrid plan to establish a rapport with Saliba’s agents and possibly wait for his contract to expire.

They have previously found success with this strategy, as seen by Kylian Mbappe’s acquisition last summer and Trent Alexander-Arnold’s anticipated transfer this upcoming summer.

Saliba will get another chance to show off his abilities against Madrid’s all-star squad when the two clubs play each other again in the second leg of the Champions League quarterfinal.

There have been rumours that Real Madrid will contact Arsenal for Saliba in the summer, although it has been thought unlikely. Furthermore, when the player becomes a free agent in 2027, the Spanish club could even hope to sign him for nothing.

Jonathan Tah of Bayer Leverkusen is believed to be linked to Madrid. But the reports say Madrid “turned him down” after having “offered” the opportunity to sign him.

Saliba, the star of Arsenal, is the player the Spanish powerhouses “are most keen on.” Prior to joining Arsenal, they “considered signing him.”

Even though this is true, a summer transfer “is highly unlikely” because Madrid’s offer would be turned down as the “Gunners’ potential fee would be too high.”

The clever plan of Madrid is “deploying their standard transfer strategy of maintaining close relationship with player’s agent and setting the ground to try and acquire him in 2026 for a reasonable amount or in 2027 as a free agent.” Meanwhile, the Premier League team is keen to agree to a new deal with the centre-back.
