Lamine Yamal injury update: Barcelona star expected to be available for World Cup

After suffering a hamstring injury during his team’s LaLiga 2025–26 encounter against Celta Vigo, Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal will miss the remainder of the season. The team announced on Thursday.
After the game, it was feared that Lamine Yamal would sit out of the World Cup as well. Reports stated that he had torn his hamstring after taking the winning penalty.

In the 40th minute of the match against Celta Vigo, Yamal scored from the spot. However, a few seconds later, he fell and clutched his left leg. Barca’s medical staff assisted him off the field shortly after, and the club went on to win 1-0.
“The tests carried out have confirmed that first-team player Lamine Yamal has an injury to the biceps femoris of his left leg,” Barcelona said in a statement.
“The player will follow a conservative treatment plan. Lamine Yamal will miss the remainder of the season and is expected to be available for the World Cup,” they added.
The 18-year-old has scored 24 goals and provided 18 assists for Barcelona in all competitions this season. The club have 82 points from 32 games, nine points above Real Madrid, and are hoping to finish the season with a second league title in a row.
Meanwhile, Lamine Yamal will now begin his recovery process and will be targeting a return before the World Cup. He will be important for La Roja’s aspirations to win the competition.
Moreover, Spain’s medical staff will also follow his recuperation and will hope to have him before the national team’s first World Cup game. They are set to open their first game against Cape Verde in the group stage fixture on 15th June.
