Spain are hoping for Yamal to be fit for the first World Cup game.
According to Luis de la Fuente, Barcelona attacker Lamine Yamal will likely be available for Spain’s opening World Cup encounter against Cape Verde on June 15, ending weeks of doubt over his fitness.
Due to a hamstring injury sustained at the end of the club season, the teenager’s participation in the tournament’s early stages had been questioned.
But with less than two weeks until the World Cup starts, the Spanish team is becoming more confident that one of their key players will be prepared right away.
Luis de la Fuente reveals Lamine Yamal’s availability for Spain’s opening World Cup game
Luis de la Fuente, when asked about Yamal’s injury, said:
“Lamine’s recovery is proceeding very well. He will be ready for the World Cup, should be already fit for the opening game. He’s doing good”
Lamine Yamal picked up the injury during Barcelona’s match against Celta Vigo in April. He was unable to finish the season with Barcelona due to a hamstring injury, which prompted questions about his role for the upcoming World Cup.
At first, there were concerns that the winger might miss Spain’s group stage games. But his rehab has gone well, and according to Spain’s head coach, he should be well enough to play against Cape Verde.
Barcelona have also been keeping a close eye on Lamine Yamal’s return, and the injury has not damaged his chances of playing a major role at the World Cup, so the development is equally good for the team.
Yamal could be part of De la Fuente’s lineup for the tournament’s opening match. In fact, Yamal is anticipated to play alongside Mikel Oyarzabal and Nico Williams in Spain’s front three against Cape Verde, according to a source from Spain.
