Los Blancos are on the lookout for a new left-back

One of the greatest and most successful teams in all of club football history is undeniably Real Madrid, with a colossal trophy cabinet of 101 titles (both domestic and international).

In the 2023–24 season, Los Blancos enjoyed yet another exceptional campaign as they won three trophies during its entirety: La Liga, Spanish Super Cup & UEFA Champions League.

With the 2024–25 season soon approaching, Real Madrid are in the hunt for a new starter left back in the market to provide serious competition to Ferland Mendy as they look to add yet another world-class talent to their already star-studded champion squad. With that said, here are the top five left-backs Real Madrid should target in the summer of 2024:

Federico Dimarco (Inter Milan/Italy/€50.00m)

One of the most sought-after left-backs currently in world football is the Italian defender Federico Dimarco, who has experienced an incredible rise to the top of the game after an amazing last few years at Inter Milan.

The 26-year-old full-back was one of the standout players in Serie A during the 2023–24 season, as he played a key role in Inter Milan’s league title triumph along with winning the Italian Super Cup with vital contributions of six goals and eight assists across all competitions.

These stellar performances have made Dimarco a regular starter in the Italian national team setup too, where he has already accumulated 22 caps in the process.

Primarily deployed as a wingback throughout his career, Federico Dimarco’s sublime all-round game makes him an equally apt full-back that could potentially prove to be a perfect fit at Los Blancos.

Miguel Gutiérrez (Girona/Spain/€25.00m)

Miguel Gutiérrez was one of Girona’s star players during their unbelievable 2023–24 campaign, where, against all odds, they finished third in La Liga, securing Champions League football for the upcoming season in the process.

The 22-year-old talented left-back was a regular starter for the Spanish outfit throughout the campaign, recording an impressive two goals and nine assists across all competitions. Known for his pace, strong tackling skills, and attacking threat, Gutiérrez could soon be a part of the La Roja setup on the international front.

After previously being a part of the Real Madrid youth system, a move back to his former club could well and truly be a strong possibility for Miguel Gutiérrez this summer transfer window.

Pervis Estupiñán (Brighton & Hove Albion/Ecuador/€30.00m)

Possibly one of the most underrated fullbacks currently in world football is Brighton’s Ecuadorian left-back, Pervis Estupiñán.

Ever since his Premier League switch from LaLiga side Villareal in 2022, Estupiñán has consistently been one of the best defenders in England with his rapid pace, stamina, versatility, defence awareness, and attacking prowess, making him a complete all-round package on both ends of the pitch.

The 26-year-old fullback has also been a key figure in the Ecuadorian national team setup, where he has accumulated an impressive 38 caps so far in his international career.

After suffering an injury-prone 2023–24 campaign where he still managed to bag seven goal contributions across all competitions, Pervis Estupiñán could be available this summer at a cut-price deal that could potentially prove to be the biggest bargain of the transfer window for a player of his outstanding qualities.

Theo Hernández (AC Milan/France/€60.00m)

Arguably one of the best left-backs in world football currently is AC Milan star Theo Hernández, who is delivering consistent world-class performances at both the club and international levels.

Hernández enjoyed a fruitful 2023–24 season as he guided AC Milan to a respectable second-place finish in Serie A, amassing an astounding five goals and 11 assists across all competitions, making him a complete modern-day full-back who can be a valuable asset in both defence and offence.

Having made 32 appearances for Le Bleus already, the 26-year-old defender has been an important player in Didier Deschamps’ setup, as he has been a regular starter in France’s route to the Euro 2024 semifinals.

Just like Miguel Gutiérrez, Theo Hernández was also previously a part of the Los Blancos academy setup. However, Real Madrid will now have to pay a hefty transfer fee if they wish to acquire the stellar services of the French superstar.

Alphonso Davies (Bayern Munich/Canada/€50.00m)

The top-most priority on Real Madrid’s shopping list for a left-back this transfer window is the Canadian sensation Alphonso Davies, who currently has only a year left on his Bayern Munich contract.

In the ongoing 2024 Copa America, captain Davies has led tournament newbies Canada to an unbelievable semi-final run, where they are set to face defending champions Argentina. Irrespective of the potential result, the 23-year-old fullback has been an instrumental player in an inexperienced Canadian setup that has defied all odds this summer.

Despite having a substandard 2023–24 campaign with Bayern Munich, Davies is still one of the best left-backs in the game, whose exceptional pace, top-notch dribbling ability, and sumptuous creativity make him the standout player on his day.

With his club contract expiring in 2025, Alphonso Davies could definitely be on the move this summer as Real Madrid hope to beat other teams in the fight for his signature, while President Florentino Perez dreams of building yet another Galactico squad in the background for the foreseeable future.
