Lionel Messi eyes another Cristiano Ronaldo record when Inter Miami face Palmeiras in Club World Cup

The Argentine scored a brilliant free kick in his last match
Lionel Messi is now only two goals away from surpassing his longtime nemesis, Cristiano Ronaldo, in terms of goals in the FIFA Club World Cup history.
In his most recent Club World Cup match, Inter Miami’s No. 10 scored a stunning free kick against Porto, bringing his tournament total to six goals.
He is now only one goal short of matching Ronaldo’s record of seven Club World Cup goals. Messi would tie the score with one more goal, but he will need another goal to eclipse his.
Lionel Messi is two goals away from breaking Cristiano Ronaldo’s record
Messi is 37 years old and still going strong. After reaching 50 goals for Inter Miami, he now seeks to reach yet another significant milestone. His best opportunity might come tonight when he plays Palmeiras.
Naturally, Cristiano Ronaldo set the standard high. He scored goals in the Club World Cup during stints with Real Madrid and Manchester United.
The most notable? A three-peat in the 2016 championship game. However, his lead is suddenly in grave danger.
Messi is no stranger to this place. When he played with Barcelona, he won the Club World Cup three times and scored five goals. With Inter Miami, he scored his sixth goal with a flawless free kick into the top corner. As though we would anticipate anything less.
Following the victory over Porto, Lionel Messi said:
“This is a very important victory, and we’ll enjoy it.” He added, “It was a great effort from the whole team… We had a sour taste after the game against Al Ahly.”
Luis Suarez is also aiming for the record, so he is not out of the race. With five goals in the Club World Cup, he still has the ability to outscore both of his old teammates. We have seen him take on challenges in the past, after all.
Now, Inter Miami holds a commanding lead in the group. Tonight, everyone will be watching to see if Messi can surpass Ronaldo in yet another statistic.
