The duo are currently playing for MLS club Inter Miami.

With a new Major League Soccer team being mentioned, Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez might continue to work together once their time at Inter Miami is finished.

A condition in the incredible agreement that brought eight-time Ballon d’Or winner Messi to the United States in the summer of 2023 stipulates that the Argentine will receive stock in Inter Miami once he retires. He might, however, want to go one step further and launch his own team.

With an MLS development choice offered to the Manchester United and England legend David Beckham under the same parameters that brought him to the LA Galaxy in 2007, Herons co-owner David Beckham is doing exactly that in Florida. Messi could lure his close friend Suarez along if he followed a similar course.

Speaking on behalf of makthavare.se, former Uruguayan international Gus Poyet was questioned by GOAL about that possible endeavour and responded as follows:

“That could be something that they work with. They are very good friends. If they open a new franchise in MLS, maybe they stick together and work together. The families are very close as well.”

Poyet said when asked if his fellow countryman is taking in a long goodbye: “Probably. After Gremio, we didn’t know. Now, he is going to play one more season. It depends on the quantity of games that he plays. It could be [his last season]. It’s where you are, the pace of the game, the family. It’s a big decision.

Although Messi has not indicated that he plans to retire very soon, veteran striker Suarez’s 2025 MLS season is probably going to be his final one. In his career, Suarez has played with teams like Ajax, Liverpool, Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid.

For Suarez, that “way” might turn out to be club ownership or a directing position somewhere. He is currently having a final dance with Messi in Miami, where a few all-time greats are hoping to add MLS Cup honour to their already impressive resumes.
