Lionel Messi overlooks famous YouTuber IShowSpeed during FIFA Club World Cup 2025 opener

Messi’s side opened their Club World Cup 2025 campaign with a 0-0 draw.

Wearing a shirt featuring Cristiano Ronaldo’s visage, the YouTube sensation IShowSpeed attended the first FIFA Club World Cup 2025 match between Inter Miami and Al Ahly.

In the tunnel at Hard Rock Stadium, IShowSpeed attempted to attract Lionel Messi’s attention, but the Argentine disregarded him as he made his way to the field.

Earlier, Speed asked former Barcelona and Argentina striker Sergio Aguero for help to meet Messi during the game. Instead of setting up the meeting, Aguero made fun of the YouTuber for wearing the jersey of his former teammate’s rival, causing a humorous moment of rejection that went viral.

This interaction serves as an example of how social media influencers are changing the way that traditional sports fandom and access are shaped. Speed has made his love of sports into entertainment by basing his internet identity primarily on exaggerated Ronaldo devotion.

Speed has been a big fan of the Portuguese star and has also met the former Real Madrid player previously, and when comparing both players (Messi & CR7), the YouTuber has always preferred Ronaldo.

He has also bashed the Argentine regularly on his page as he feels the former Barcelona star is nowhere near the level of Ronaldo.

The moment also illustrates how, despite Lionel Messi and Ronaldo’s on-field star power gradually waning as they age, their rivalry still has resonance on a worldwide scale.

Meanwhile, Lionel Messi, who played his first Club World Cup 2025 with the Herons, saw his side settle for a 0-0 draw in the match. It will be interesting to see how the Florida-based club fare in this competition, as their next two opponents are set to be two of the strongest sides.
