The centre-back challenged the ex-United player to say it to his face.
Lisandro Martínez dared them to repeat their remarks in front of him after Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt predicted that Erling Haaland was going to make the Manchester United defender seem like “a little toddler” in the Manchester derby.
Before the match, Butt said on a podcast that Haaland would “pick Lisandro Martinez up and run with him” and that their fight at Old Trafford would be like “a dad after school running down the road with a little toddler.”
In response, Scholes said, “he’d score, then throw him in the net.”

However, the Argentinian retaliated against the former players, especially Scholes, after Lisandro Martinez kept Haaland silent during United’s thrilling 2-0 victory.
“Honestly, he [Scholes] can say whatever he wants,” Martinez said. “I told him already, if he wants to say something to me, he can come to wherever he wants. To my house, wherever. I don’t care.”
“I think for me, I respect the relations [ex-players] when they want to help the club because everyone can talk on the television but when you see [them] here face to face, no one says anything in your face,” Martinez continued.
“So for me, I don’t really care what they say. I just put the focus on my performance, the performance of the team and I give everything to this club until my last day.”
In response to Lisandro Martínez’s remarks, Paul Scholes posted on Instagram right away, saying, “Someone’s had a good game, was really happy for you… Tea, no sugar pls @lisandromartinezzz.”
United are reportedly displeased with Scholes and Butt’s remarks on the podcast, thinking it was an attempt to make fun of Martinez rather than provide any insightful commentary.
Butt and Scholes have both been at Old Trafford lately. The two were seen in the directors’ office with Sir Alex Ferguson during United’s 2-1 FA Cup loss to Brighton the weekend before the derby, which Martinez participated in.
