The centre-back is yet to run after suffering an ACL injury.
Since sustaining a cruciate ligament injury during a match against Crystal Palace on February 2, 2025, Lisandro Martinez has been sidelined.
Under Ruben Amorim, Martinez was just starting to get traction when all of that progress was taken away from him.
Martinez is still involved with the Man United squad
The manager of Manchester United places a high importance on his leadership abilities, which is why Martinez remained close to the team, even visiting the USA and setting a positive tone. He might be on the verge of a miraculous recovery.
A cruciate ligament injury typically takes nine months to heal, and after rehabilitation and returning to full fitness, the total recovery time might range from ten to eleven months. Hence, the Argentine defender was expected to be out until January 2026.
But surprisingly, Martinez is anticipated to return following the November international break, which is the last one before the club game stretch starts.
Lisandro Martinez expected to miss first three games of new 2025-26 season

Laurie Whitwell, however, stated during The Talk of the Devils podcast that Martinez is on his way back from injury earlier than expected. Whitwell revealed:
“Lisandro Martinez is on the tour, but the expectation is that he will miss the first three games of the Premier League at least.”
Lisandro Martinez hopes to be back in action soon after the first international break, missing only the first three games of the season.
Before the international break, on August 30, Manchester United will play their third league match of the season. On September 14, they will face a fierce Manchester Derby.
Amorim is unlikely to put Martinez in the deep end position; thus, it could he possible that the Argentine defender is in the matchday squad by then.
The versatile defender will take time to find the rhythm as he will be returning from the long-term injury; hence, he could take a few months to return to his full form.
