The Argentine centre-back suffered an ACL injury in February.

Following his return to full training with the Manchester United first team, Lisandro Martinez has intensified his comeback.

The 27-year-old centre-back made his first training appearance at Carrington on Wednesday following surgery for an ACL injury he sustained in February.

Nine months ago, during United’s 2-0 loss to Crystal Palace at Old Trafford, a distraught Lisandro Martinez was carried off on a stretcher.

When will Lisandro Martinez return to action?

When questioned last week, Ruben Amorim did not specify when the Argentina international will rejoin the matchday squad. He won’t be ready to play until Saturday’s Premier League trip to Nottingham Forest.

The next weekend, however, he might be included in the matchday squad for the trip to Spurs.

He was seen earlier this month undergoing rehabilitation at Carrington in one-on-one sessions. Since signing for the Red Devils in July 2022, the beloved defender, also referred to as “The Butcher,” has struggled with injuries.

After fracturing his metatarsal in April 2023, he was on the treatment table for months during his debut season with the team. The defender had another strange ailment shortly after he recovered from that setback.

In February 2024, he was sidelined for eight weeks after his knee bent awkwardly after a brawl with Vladimir Coufal of West Ham.

Other Man Utd injury news

Despite being sick the week before, Luke Shaw‘s run in Amorim’s squad continued in the victory over Brighton. The England international suffered illness against the Seagulls, but the United manager acknowledged that he should be fine for this weekend.

Harry Maguire missed the last match against Brighton because of a minor injury. However, the Englishman will likely return to the team for the match against Forest.

He has suffered two major injuries. He has suffered ACL and ankle injuries.

When can Martinez play again?

He could return against Tottenham next weekend.
