The 1954 edition of the mega competition saw the most number of hat-tricks (8) in a single edition. A total of eight nations have won the World Cup. Brazil is the country with the most titles (5).

Messi is also the oldest player to score a hat-trick in the World Cup at 38 years and 357 days old. He overtook the record previously secured by Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored a brilliant hat-trick against Spain during the 2018 World Cup.
